Adding problems

How to add problems to a topic with the problem picker, from the problem archive, collections, other topics or problem sets.

You add problems to a topic with the problem picker: tick several problems and add them in one go. Course owners, teachers and organisation admins can add problems.

  1. On the Problems page, select Add problems under a topic.
  2. Find and tick problems on one or both tabs.
  3. Select Add N problems at the bottom.

Problems are added at the end of the topic, in the order you ticked them. When the topic’s list is used by other topics too, the app asks whether to change it only here or everywhere (see Topics).

The same picker fills a topic’s task pool for individual tasks (Add problems under Individual tasks in the topic panel). There, problems already in the pool are marked In the pool, and the topic’s own problems can be picked too; see Individual tasks.

On the left are the Collections: All problems first, then the collection tree with problem counts. Choosing a collection also shows the problems of its subcollections. Collections with nothing to pick are hidden.

At the top are search and filters:

  • Search by title or number: word order doesn’t matter, and Lithuanian letters may be typed without diacritics; the best matches come first. Esc clears the search first.
  • Difficulty: Easy (0–2), Medium (3–4), Hard (5–10).
  • Input: Standard or Files (Excel tasks are left out by this filter).
  • Used in my courses: only problems already used in your courses.
  • Clear filters shows every problem again.

When nothing is found in a collection, select Search all collections.

A problem’s row shows its type, title, difficulty, a files icon, its collection and how many courses use it. States:

State Meaning
In this topic The problem is already in the topic and can’t be ticked.
Not published It can be added, but students see it only once a version is published.
Already in this course The problem is already used in this course (in another topic).

Archived problems are not listed in the picker.

Tick problems one at a time (select the row), several in a row (hold Shift), or all shown with Select all shown (N); Clear shown unticks them.

The picker loads up to 3000 problems at once. When the archive holds more, a message says to look for the others in the problem archive.

When you point at a problem or reach it with the arrow keys, the Problem preview appears on the right:

  • the statement and the first two samples (long samples are shortened);
  • Difficulty (for example “6 of 10”), Input and output, Limits (time and memory), Tests (the total and how many samples);
  • for an Excel task, Type: “Excel task: students upload an .xlsx file”;
  • Used in: this course, your other courses, and how many courses you can’t open.

Here you take problems from another topic or a problem set.

  1. On the left, choose a source: My courses (topics with problems of this course and the other courses you teach) or Problem sets (Mine, Organisation, Public). You can search the sources.
  2. On the right, tick problems or select Select all (N).

Problems already in the topic and archived problems can’t be ticked here. The ticked problems are added together with those ticked on the Problem archive tab; the source topic or set is not linked to your topic.

The footer shows N selected and the titles of the ticked problems. Select them to open the list in the order they will be added (Added in this order), with their source (“From: …”). There you can remove problems one by one or Clear them all.

  • A topic holds at most 200 problems; at the limit it says “A topic holds at most 200 problems.”
  • While problems are ticked, a stray click outside the dialog doesn’t close it.
  • When some problems can’t be added, it says “Some problems can’t be added: they are archived or not available to you.”

The picker’s keyboard shortcuts are on the keyboard shortcuts page for staff.
