Course overview

A course's numbers for today, students who need attention, topics, recent submissions, the progress chart and the groups on one page.

Overview is a course’s first page (/teaching/<course>). Open it by selecting the course name in the sidebar and then Overview, or by selecting the course’s card on Home. Every number covers only the students you can see, and it updates by itself.

Under the course title you see your role and the number of students. At the top right are People and Settings (the latter only for those who can see the settings).

Below are today’s numbers: Students, Submissions today (programming submissions and Excel uploads, as in Recent submissions below), Accepted today (an Excel upload counts when it has full marks) and Active today (students who submitted at least once today).

Up to five students who may need help, most urgent first, each with their main reason (for example “3 overdue”, “6 failed attempts”, “8 days without submissions”). Select a student to open their panel under People, or Show all (N) for the whole Needs attention list. When a student appears here is described on Students.

Each topic of the course with its mode icon (lesson or assessment), its schedule and its state:

  • the schedule shows the date that matters most (for example “Due Oct 14” or “Opens …”); when groups have different schedules, it says “Varies by group”;
  • the state is Open, Scheduled or Closed.

Select a topic to open the Problems page with that topic’s panel. Manage topics opens the whole Problems page.

The six newest submissions and Excel uploads. Select one to open it on the Submissions page; All submissions opens the full list.

In a wide window the progress panel is on the right; in a narrower one, at the bottom of the page.

The chart counts student × problem pairs:

  • Scope: a pair is counted once its topic opens for the student’s group;
  • In progress: the student has submitted at least once but not solved the problem yet;
  • Completed: a submission was accepted (the share is shown as a percentage).

The chart covers up to the last 120 days and marks today. When a deadline is coming up, Projected shows how many pairs will be completed by then at the current pace.

Under the chart, the Groups, Students and Topics tabs show how much each has completed out of how much. Select a student to open their panel. Open progress leads to the progress sheet.

The groups attached to the course with their number of students. Select a group to open that group’s student list. Without groups it says “No group is attached to this course. Students were enrolled one by one.”
