Reading and search
The wiki's home, search, the reading view, the sidebar tree and what students see.
The wiki’s home
Section titled “The wiki’s home”Wiki (/wiki) shows the page tree: pages with their subpages.
- Who can read: All, Public or Organisation.
- Status: Active or Archived, for people who can create pages only. The archived list shows archived pages you can edit.
- Search titles and text searches both titles and text, ignoring case and Lithuanian accents (“saknu” finds “Šaknų”). Results are a list, most recently changed first, showing up to 300 pages.
Filters and the search stay in the address, so you can send a link to the list to someone else.
Search (Ctrl K)
Section titled “Search (Ctrl K)”In the app’s search (Ctrl K, ⌘ K on a Mac), the Wiki group lists pages whose title or text contains what you typed:
- it searches once you type at least 2 characters, ignoring case and Lithuanian accents; up to 10 pages show, those whose title matches first;
- each page shows its path through the pages above it, such as “Python › Loops”; when only the text matched, a line from the text with the match shows under the title;
- only pages you can open are listed: published pages you can read, and drafts you can edit (marked with a pencil). Archived pages are never in it;
- the page you pick opens in the current tab: in the reading view, or in the editor if you can edit it.
Students see only published pages they can read in this search; a path skips pages they can’t see.
Reading a page
Section titled “Reading a page”A page you can’t edit opens in the reading view:
- on the left, the page tree with Filter pages (matches titles); the current page is highlighted and the way to it is open;
- at the top, the path to the page through its parent pages;
- above the title, who can read it and an Updated date;
- at the end of the page, Subpages and Previous / Next cards (in tree order);
- on the right, On this page: the page’s headings. Selecting one scrolls to that section and puts its anchor in the address, so you can send a link straight to it.
In a narrower window, Pages opens the tree and On this page becomes a disclosure above the text. Branches you open in the tree stay open while you move around the wiki.
A page you can edit opens in the editor. Preview shows how readers see it.
The sidebar
Section titled “The sidebar”The sidebar’s Wiki row opens the wiki’s home, and the arrow beside it expands the page tree. Each page with subpages expands on its own. The page you have open is highlighted and the way to it is open. The app remembers which branches are open in this browser.
The tree holds only pages you may read; drafts you edit are marked with a pencil.
What students see
Section titled “What students see”Students read published public pages and their organisation’s pages in the same reading view. They don’t see drafts (in the tree or in search), the archived list or the New page button. How the app looks to a student is in the section for students.
When a page can’t be opened
Section titled “When a page can’t be opened”Another organisation’s page, someone else’s draft and a page that doesn’t exist look the same: the app says the page was not found. Readers can open an archived page, but they see only a notice that it has been archived.
