Topics and deadlines

When a topic opens and closes, how a lesson differs from an assessment, what happens after the deadline, and the kinds of problems.

A course’s problems are grouped into topics. A topic decides when you can work on its problems and how late work counts. Your teacher sets each topic’s dates and mode.

A topic can have three dates. None of them is required.

Date What it means
Start Until then the topic is closed: you can’t see or solve its problems
Deadline When the problems are due
Hard close After this, no more submissions are accepted

Dates can differ between groups: you see the ones for your group. Times are shown in Lithuanian time, on a 24-hour clock.

State What you see What you can do
Not open yet “Opens Oct 20, 08:00” (for an assessment, “Starts …”), a dashed status circle You see only the topic’s title and how many problems it has. Problem titles, statements and examples are not shown, and the editor doesn’t open
Open The deadline, or “In progress · until 10:45” Everything: read statements, run your program, submit, upload Excel files
Closed “Closed Oct 14” with a lock icon You can still read statements and run your program with the samples or your own input, but submissions and Excel uploads are no longer accepted

When a topic is closed, the editor and the upload form say why: “Submissions closed …”.

Every topic has a mode. You see it in the problem list: assessment topics carry an “Assessment” badge.

Lesson Assessment
Date in the list The deadline with a calendar icon; after the deadline, while not every problem is solved, “Overdue · …” The time window, e.g. “In progress · until 10:45”
When it closes At the hard close. Without one, submissions are accepted after the deadline too At the hard close, or at the deadline when there is none
After the deadline Submissions are accepted, but the problem is marked “Solved after the deadline” and may earn fewer points No submissions once the time window has ended
Practice runs With the samples and with your own input While it runs, only with the samples
On My work Under “Coming up” While it runs, under “Open now”
Quizzes Leaving the window is not recorded Your teacher may turn on leaving-window tracking, see Quizzes

While an assessment is running, its submissions go ahead of other work in the judging queue, so you get results sooner.

In a lesson topic you can submit after the deadline until the hard close.

  • If you first solve a problem after the deadline, its status is “Solved after the deadline”.
  • A common problem’s points are then multiplied by the late factor. The problem page shows it under “After deadline”, e.g. “50% of points”. For how this affects your mark, see Grades.
  • If you solved a problem before the deadline, later submissions don’t change its status.
  • Orange – the deadline is near (in lists, 7 days or less).
  • Red – the deadline has passed and the problem isn’t solved.
  • Grey – the deadline is far away or the problem is solved.

A topic can hold three kinds of problems:

Kind Label What it means
Common – For every student of the topic
Individual “Assigned to you” Your teacher assigned it to you personally. These problems set the topic mark
Extra “Extra problem” An extra problem from your teacher

You don’t see other students’ individual or extra problems.

A course can limit how many times a day you may submit for each problem. The limit resets at midnight (Lithuanian time). Compilation errors and system errors don’t use an attempt. More in Running and submitting.

Your inbox tells you when an assessment opens for you and when a topic is due within the next two days. You can turn these off under Settings → Notifications.
