Schedules and deadlines
When a topic opens, is due and closes, separate schedules for groups, “Open now” for assessments, and late credit.
You set a topic’s schedule in the topic panel: on the Problems page, select the topic’s title, or choose Edit details and schedule in the topic’s menu.
staff/teaching/topic-scheduleThree dates
Section titled “Three dates”| Date | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Opens | Until then the topic is “Not open yet” for students: they can’t submit or run programs. An empty field means the topic is open at once. |
| Due | When the problems should be solved. After the deadline an unsolved problem shows as overdue to the student, and a solution accepted after the deadline earns only the share of the points set by late credit and is marked “Solved after the deadline”. |
| Closes | From then on graded submissions are no longer accepted. The statement stays visible, and students can still run their programs (without grading). |
An assessment-mode topic without a Closes date closes when its Due date passes. A lesson without Closes stays open after the deadline.
When no date is set, it says “Always open”.
Rules:
- dates include a time and are in Lithuanian time;
- Opens must be before Closes; otherwise the error “The opening must be before the closing.” appears;
- when you pick a day, the time defaults to 23:59; change it in the Time field (HH:MM);
- the date picker offers Today, Tomorrow, Next week and Clear;
- a change is saved as soon as you pick a date.
Schedule for everyone
Section titled “Schedule for everyone”The dates under Schedule for everyone apply to every group without its own schedule and to individually enrolled students. Course owners, teachers and organisation admins can change them.
A group’s schedule
Section titled “A group’s schedule”Under Groups you see each group attached to the course with its state and the date that matters most (for example “Due Oct 14” or “Opens …”). The Changed chip means the group has its own schedule.
- Select the group’s row to expand it.
- Set the group’s Opens, Due or Closes. An empty field means “Same as everyone” and shows the shared date.
- To give the group the shared schedule again, select Use the schedule for everyone.
Course owners, teachers, organisation admins and the group’s admin can change a group’s schedule. On the Problems page a group admin sees the note “You can open and close topics for your groups. Other changes are made by course teachers.”
When groups have different schedules, the topic list says “Varies by group” instead of a date.
Open now and close now
Section titled “Open now and close now”Assessment-mode topics have quick buttons next to each group, handy when an assessment starts in class.
- In the group’s row, select Open now.
- Choose a length: 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes.
The group’s Opens becomes now and its Closes the chosen length later. While the topic is open for the group, Close now takes the button’s place: it sets Closes to this moment (and, if the topic had not started yet, Opens too). Both actions create a group schedule, so the group gets the Changed chip.
Late credit and time limits
Section titled “Late credit and time limits”- The share of the points a late solution earns is set in the course settings (Late credit) for all topics at once; new topics get 50 %.
- A topic has no separate timer: an assessment lasts as long as its schedule. A program’s time and memory limits are properties of the problem in the problem archive.
- A quiz in the topic follows the topic’s schedule unless it has its own time, and a group’s Open now and Close now open and close the topic’s quizzes for that group too. Close now also ends the group’s running quiz attempts. A quiz’s duration is its own; see Quizzes.
How the schedule shows elsewhere
Section titled “How the schedule shows elsewhere”- In the progress sheet, problems of a topic that has not opened show as Not open, and problems solved after the deadline as Late.
- Needs attention uses each group’s schedule: overdue problems are those whose deadline has passed while the topic is still open.
- Students get an inbox notification when less than 48 hours remain until a deadline, and when an assessment opens.
