Getting started as a student
How to sign in, find your problems, solve them in the editor and follow your progress.
Signing in
Section titled “Signing in”Your teacher or your organisation’s administrator gives you a username and a temporary password.
- Sign in with that username and temporary password.
- Choose a new password: at least 10 characters, without your username.
- Pick the interface language and the theme. You can change both later in Settings → Preferences.
If you link your Google or GitHub account in Settings → Security, you can sign in next time with “Continue with Google” or “Continue with GitHub”.
My work
Section titled “My work”After signing in you land on My work:
- Open now – tests that are open right now.
- Continue – problems you worked on recently.
- Coming up – deadlines, grouped into “Overdue”, “Today and tomorrow”, “This week” and “Later”.
- Recent results – how your latest submissions were judged.
Your courses are in the sidebar under Your courses. Star a problem to keep it under Favorites.
Solving a problem
Section titled “Solving a problem”- In a course, open Problems: each topic is listed with its problems.
- On a problem, read the statement and choose Open editor (E).
- Pick a programming language and write your code.
- Choose Run samples to run your program on the statement’s examples. Under Custom input you can also run it on your own input.
- When it works, choose Submit. Judging progress and the outcome appear straight away; there is no need to reload the page.
Practice runs don’t use attempts; every submission counts as one.
Prefer your own code editor? The VS Code extension does all of this from Visual Studio Code.
During a test, programs can only be run with the samples.
Submissions and grades
Section titled “Submissions and grades”- Submissions in a course lists everything you submitted. Select a row to see the verdict, the tests and the compiler messages in a side panel (your teacher decides how much of it is shown).
- Grades shows solved problems, points and how your mark is made, by topic.
- Inbox collects replies from teachers, judging outcomes, announcements and upcoming deadlines from all your courses.
Your results, points and marks are seen only by you and your course staff. If the course shows it, the Progress sheet shows your group which common problems each of you has solved, attempted or not started, and nothing more (Progress sheet).
Excel tasks
Section titled “Excel tasks”In an Excel task you download the starter workbook, fill it in and upload your .xlsx file. Once it is checked you see which grading rules are met and how many points you got.
Quizzes
Section titled “Quizzes”Quizzes are under Quizzes in the course, or in their topic. On the start page, read the rules (time limit, number of attempts, whether you can go back) and choose Start quiz. Answers save automatically, and the timer runs on the server, so reloading the page does not stop the clock.
Asking your teacher
Section titled “Asking your teacher”On a problem, choose Ask your teacher about this problem. The message is linked to the problem, so your teacher sees right away what you are asking about. The reply arrives under Messages in the course and in your inbox.
- Keyboard shortcuts – work faster from the keyboard.
- VS Code extension – solve problems in Visual Studio Code.
- What’s new – what changed in the latest version.
