Problem page
The statement, examples, limits, input and output, attempts left, your submissions and related wiki pages.
A problem’s page opens when you select the problem in the list (address /courses/<course>/problems/<problem>). The statement is on the left; the problem’s properties and your submissions are on the right. In a narrow window the properties show as a strip under the title, and your submissions below the statement.
students/learning/problem-pageTop bar
Section titled “Top bar”- Position in the list, e.g. “3 / 12”, and arrows to the previous (K) and next (J) problem of the course.
- Star – adds the problem to Favorites.
- Open editor (E) – opens the code editor in its own tab. On an Excel task it is Upload .xlsx instead, which takes you to the upload section.
Above the title are the topic, the “Assessment” badge (where it applies) and “Assigned to you” or “Extra problem”.
Statement
Section titled “Statement”Your teacher writes the statement. It is usually split into parts such as “Input”, “Output” and “Requirements”. A statement can contain:
- lists, code examples, formulas and images;
- “Note” and “Warning” boxes;
- hints – select “Hint” to expand one;
- links to other websites (they open in a new browser tab);
- links to wiki pages.
When you rest the pointer on a wiki link or move to it with the keyboard, a preview of the page appears. Selecting the link opens the wiki page in its own tab in the app.
Older problems
Section titled “Older problems”Some problems moved from the previous system still have their statement being converted to the new format (“This statement is being converted”) or could not be converted (“This statement could not be converted”). You then see the examples and an expandable original text (“Original statement (TeX)”). You can solve the problem as usual.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”“Examples” holds the sample tests: input and expected output. If the program reads and writes files, the boxes are labelled with the file names, e.g. duom.txt and rez.txt.
- The button next to a box copies its contents.
- An empty box reads “Empty”.
- Very long data is shortened (“Long data is shortened here.”).
You can run the same examples in the editor with Run samples. Your grade is decided by all tests, including hidden ones that are not in the statement.
Properties
Section titled “Properties”| Property | What it means |
|---|---|
| Status | Your progress, e.g. “3 of 10 tests pass” or “Solved” (see the status icons) |
| Deadline | The topic’s deadline (in a lesson topic) |
| After deadline | How many points a solution after the deadline earns, e.g. “50% of points”. Shown only when it is below 100% |
| Accepted until / Closed | The hard close, when there is one |
| Time window | An assessment’s time window (instead of the deadline) |
| Attempts today | How many more submissions you can make today, e.g. “3 of 5 left”, or “Unlimited” |
| Time limit | How much CPU time your program may use per test, e.g. “1 s” |
| Memory limit | How much memory your program may use, e.g. “256 MB” |
| Languages | The languages allowed for this problem |
| Input and output | “Standard input and output”, or files, e.g. duom.txt → rez.txt |
| Difficulty | From 0 to 10. A common problem earns as many points as its difficulty |
On an Excel task, Type (“Excel task”) and Uploads (how many files you uploaded out of how many allowed) replace the attempts, limits, languages and input.
Attempts today
Section titled “Attempts today”The bar and the text show how many attempts are left. Hover over it or move to it with the keyboard to see the explanation: “Resets at midnight. Compilation errors don’t use an attempt.” When none are left, you see “No attempts left today”. More in Attempt limits.
Standard input or files
Section titled “Standard input or files”- Standard input and output. The program reads from the keyboard (
cin,input()) and writes to the screen (cout,print()). - Files. The program must read the given input file and write the given output file. During judging nothing comes from the keyboard, and output written to the screen is not checked. File names are case-sensitive:
Rez.txtandrez.txtare different files.
Your submissions
Section titled “Your submissions”Your submissions lists your five latest submissions: the verdict and how long ago. Select a row to open the result under Submissions; All submissions shows every submission for this problem. In a narrow window, the list below the statement also shows tests passed, language and date.
Only you and your teachers see your submissions.
Questions
Section titled “Questions”Under Questions, select Ask your teacher about this problem to start a new message linked to this problem. See Messages to teachers.
Related wiki pages
Section titled “Related wiki pages”If the problem is linked to wiki pages, or its statement links to them, “Related wiki pages” appears under the statement. It lists only published pages you can read. The same section is in the editor’s statement pane.
When a problem isn’t open yet
Section titled “When a problem isn’t open yet”If the topic hasn’t started, instead of the statement you see “Not open yet” and the date the problem opens. The statement, examples and editor are not available until then.
