What other students can see about you, who sees your work, and what is kept in your browser.
What you see
Section titled “What you see”- Your own progress, submitted solutions, Excel uploads, grades and quiz attempts.
- The results of your own judged submissions, with every test’s data, hidden tests included (Results).
- Your own conversations with the course’s teachers, and announcements for your course or group.
- The names of your courses’ teachers.
- The wiki pages you are allowed to read (Wiki).
- If the course shows it, the progress sheet of your group: your classmates’ names and, for each common problem, whether they solved it, attempted it or have not started.
What other students don’t see
Section titled “What other students don’t see”Other students can’t see any of this about you, and you can’t see it about them:
- solutions or their code, results of checks, points, attempts or when you worked;
- grades or quiz results;
- conversations with teachers.
The one exception is the course’s progress sheet, when your teacher leaves it on: the students of your group see your name and, for each common problem of the open topics, whether you solved it, attempted it or have not started. They never see anything finer, nothing of a test while it is in progress, and nothing of your individual tasks.
There are no rankings or leaderboards: the progress sheet is in name order. This is enforced on the server: other students’ data is never sent to your browser, rather than merely hidden on screen. Even with a link to your submission, another student cannot open it.
Who sees your work
Section titled “Who sees your work”| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| The course’s owner, teachers and assistants | Every student’s progress, solutions and code, grades, quiz answers and conversations in the course. They can compare solutions for similarity. |
| A group administrator | The same, for students of their group only. |
| An organisation administrator | The same, in their organisation’s courses. |
| A system administrator | Everything: they run the system. |
- If your teacher turned on recording when you leave the window, they see during an assessment how many times and for how long you left the quiz window. The quiz’s start page warns you about it.
- Your teacher can set a temporary password for you, but nobody can see your password (Signing in).
What is kept in your browser
Section titled “What is kept in your browser”These are kept only in the browser you work in, separately for each user:
- open tabs (Tabs);
- favorite problems (Favorites);
- which sidebar sections are expanded;
- drafts in the code editor.
Another user who signs in on the same browser does not see them, but they stay on the computer until the browser’s data is cleared. Your language, theme and other settings are stored with your account.
Usage statistics and screen recordings
Section titled “Usage statistics and screen recordings”If the system’s administrators turned them on, the app counts which pages are opened, to see which screens are used and to improve them. It sends the page’s address without search terms, your browser, your screen size, your role kind (for example, student) and the interface language. It never sends your name, username, email, code, answers, grades or anything you type. Instead of your account it uses a code from which nobody outside the system can tell who you are. Nothing is stored in your browser for this.
The app may also record how its pages are used: screen recordings with all text hidden. All the text on the page and everything you type is replaced with asterisks (*), so a recording shows only the layout, scrolling and clicks. Pictures, program code, the progress sheet and passwords are never recorded at all. Recordings carry the same code instead of your account, never your name. Only if your organisation agreed to it can recordings show the pages’ text; what you type stays hidden even then.
To opt out, turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser’s privacy settings. When your browser sends either of them, the app sends no statistics and records nothing.
Shared computers
Section titled “Shared computers”A sign-in lasts 30 days after your last visit, even after the browser is closed. On a computer other people use, always select Sign out when you finish. If you forgot to sign out, open Settings → Security on another device and sign that device out (Account security).
